How I Ordered My Car From Auction Direct: Interview with Lee Drake

Lee Drake Miata

Buying a vehicle, especially a used car, doesn’t need to be a hassle – especially when you already know exactly what you want. And what happens when a dealership doesn’t even have the vehicle you’re looking for? Instead of just telling you about how you can Order a Car from us, see what Lee Drake had to say about ordering his dream car from Auction Direct:

AD: How did you hear about Auction Direct?

LD: I originally noticed Auction Direct through their mall presence, though I did stop into the Eastview Mall store. I was intrigued by the idea of an auto sales location in the mall.

AD: How long were you in the market for a vehicle?

LD: I started shopping about 2.5 weeks before I received my vehicle. I wanted to buy this particular car for quite a while and did a lot of research, but buying the new car was forced along by increasing maintenance costs on my old car.

AD: What did you eventually purchase?

LD: I purchased a 2009 Mazda Miata Touring hardtop convertible, in arrest-me red.:)

AD: Tell us about your “Order a Car” experience. What did you have to do? What did you like about doing it this way?

LD: I originally visited the Victor store, to familiarize myself with the buying process and talk over what I wanted with my salesperson, Patrick Himmler. Pat took care of explaining how the process worked.  Since my requirements were pretty specific (needed a certain age hard top, specific trim level, specific year etc) there was a limited availability of the vehicle I wanted. I was introduced to the corporate buyers who said they would look for a car with my specifications. Patrick even pointed out a car at a nearby Syracuse dealer that was near to my specs, but not exactly what I wanted; this gave me a comparison point for pricing. The corporate buyer located a car that was pretty close to my specs within a couple of days.

The “buy it now” price on the car was approximately what I was looking for, but because the car was in Florida there were some transport costs that would end up putting it over my original “top price”. I debated a bit,Lee Drake Miata and then told them to buy the car. On my part this was a risk free move – if I decided not to take the car, they would sell it to someone else. Well it was really a done deal. Once I slipped my frame into the seat, put the top down and drove it for a few hours I knew this was the car for me. (and they probably did too)

I saved over $10,000 over buying the car new and it still had almost a year of factory warranty and only 17,000 miles on it. I drove the car back the next day and we resolved the sale. Auction Direct had the same financing rate as the “best price” I could get from other sources, so it was an easy decision to finance the car.

AD: How did this compare to some of your previous car buying experiences?

LD: I hate, hate, hate the process of “let me talk to my manager about whether we can do that deal.” It makes me want to get up and walk out. It was great to buy the car, knowing that Auction Direct had done the 85 point inspection. I only found one small issue I with the car, which they guaranteed they would fix for me if the dealer wouldn’t fix it under warranty. On taking it to the dealer they said it didn’t need fixing at all – I could safely ignore it. The entire Auction Direct staff was pleasant, had great follow-through and I enjoyed my car buying experience.

I bought this car under (my own) pressure, due to the problems with my old car – Auction Direct’s staff converted it from being a stressful buying experience to an enjoyable one. And yes, I’ve referred a number of friends to Auction Direct.

AD: Any speeding tickets yet?

LD: One thing I’ve learned about owning a convertible is that 65 feels like 80. So no – I haven’t attracted the attention of our local constabulary yet…

Thanks for sharing your experience with everyone Lee, your support is appreciated. Enjoy your new ride!

Eric, the reason I buy used cars is first time owners typically add expensive upgrades to the vehicle as a
way to personalize it and when you buy a used car it already comes with
the upgrades, such as high end rims or an enhanced sound system or even
tinted windows. If you buy new then you have to pay the additional cost
to install whatever upgrades you are interested in having in a vehicle.
