Craigslist has become a major destination for used car shoppers. Unfortunately, this has also created an opportunity for unsavory sellers to rip people off.
Here’s one more tool that may help you get the best information possible and make an informed decision on a vehicle. It’s a Firefox browser extension, so you’ll need to download Firefox if you don’t have it already. Once installed, add the Craigslist used car extension. Then, simply browse the Craigslist used car listings.
Now you’ll notice a few new items within the listing page:
- Price estimates/range from multiple sources
- Links to additional research sites
- Factory car recall for the car model
- Consumer reviews
- Car reliability information from MSN Autos Reliability section
- Shows highlighted messages at the top of the listing: Warnings about it being an accident car, rebuilt car, moving sale, one owner or just recommends asking the car had an accident. (Always smart to ask)
- If available, similar (year/make/model) ads from within Criagslist
- Contact phone number is highlighted so you don’t have search for it. (No phone number is a red flag to watch for)
Screenshots of the additional page information provide below. Be smart – get all the information possible before you buy.
