Having recently graduated from the Driver’s Education course, and obtained a driver’s license, it is now time to purchase a vehicle. Like all drivers, deciding whether sufficient funds are available to purchase a new vehicle is an option, or whether purchasing a used vehicle is the more practical option, becomes a major deciding factor for the young driver.
Although employed, most young drivers fall into the later category and end up looking at used cars for sale or used trucks for sale, although you also have the ones who are convinced that the only way to go is to look for a used SUV for sale. Many young people today are finding SUV’s to be a great option, as they often travel to concerts and events as a group.
Like most young drivers, the car classifieds are the first place they look, followed by the Internet, and finally, the used car dealership. Young people today are very empowered with search options, and know how to use them to their advantage, making them savvy car buyers.
These young shoppers know where to look, what to ask, what to look for, and what they want, and in the end, generally walk away if a salesperson attempts to dissuade them from fulfilling their desires.
Being a young driver also has its disadvantages as well, and generally means that even with the Driver’s Training course behind you, the cost to put auto insurance on the vehicle you purchase at the dealership, through the car classifieds, or over the Internet will be almost double the cost, compared to that of an experienced driver with a clean record. Unfortunately, since auto insurance rates are based on accident statistics, and young drivers are the most prone to be behind the wheel when an accident occurs, their rates, when they first begin driving, are extremely high.
For some young people, auto insurance becomes the main deciding factor when it comes to buying their first vehicle. The monthly payments alone often dictate how much money remains, each month, to be spent on buying their first vehicle, and often forces them to buy a vehicle that is a few years older, or a make that sells at a cheaper re-sale price.
