The SUV is Dead… not so fast.
Recently I read an article declaring the death of the SUV. For the first time in many years, cars actually outsold SUV’s. I say big deal.
I totally understand why so many people are looking to trade their 18mpg (and that’s if you’re lucky ) SUV in for smaller, more economical vehicles, with gas prices approaching 5 dollars a gallon.
But lets be totally honest. I’m the father of twins. Have you ever tried to squeeze two car seats into a Prius? Put groceries for a family of four (or more) into a Yaris?
Good luck. I’m not suggesting you run off and buy an H2. Of course not. With the rising gas prices, more than a few, if not all of the automobile manufacturers are coming out with alternate fuel or Hybrid SUV’s.
Dodge has a Flex Fuel SUV. Tahoe has a full size Hybrid SUV. And you can’t turn the corner these days without seeing a Toyota or Ford Hybrid SUV, such as the Highlander and the Escape. With all of these Hybrid or Flex Fuel SUV’s on the road, the competition can’t help but follow. This is good news for those not ready to jump on the green bandwagon, yet have the desire to own an SUV.
With SUV’s being traded in at furious rates, dealerships are flooded with the supposedly dead vehicle. People trading in used trucks and SUV’s that were purchased six month’s ago. Looking for the opportunity to own an SUV? Now would be that time. Small business owners, construction workers, contractors – even people just looking for strong SUV values before the winter sneaks up on us…now is definitely that time.
The SUV isn’t dead. With decreasing demand, rising inventories and falling prices, it’s just being reborn.
Are you holding out for better SUV prices too? Let us know about your situations…
